EMDR intensives & luxury Retreats

Why consider an EMDR intensive?

Weekly EMDR is highly effective, but for many people it is not practical, or it feels too slow. Intensive EMDR, sometimes called I-EMDR, involves working in longer sessions and / or more frequently over a condensed period, for example daily sessions over several days. Research suggests that intensive formats can produce similar or even better outcomes to weekly EMDR, but in a fraction of the time, with improvements maintained at follow up. Intensives can be particularly helpful if:

  • You have a clear trauma focus that you would like to address in a protected block of time.

  • You struggle with the “stop start” nature of weekly therapy and find it hard to pick up again after a gap.

  • Life is busy, and blocking out several days feels more realistic than attending months of weekly sessions.

  • You are already in therapy, but both you and your therapist feel a focused EMDR block could help you move through a stuck area.

  • You are feeling well but feel stuck in making your goals in to a plan

People who have experienced intensive EMDR often describe it as having a contained psychological “bubble” in which they can go deeper, stay connected to the work between sessions, and experience a more noticeable shift in how they see themselves, their lives and their relationships.

I have created a new business that offers EMDR intensive retreats in the South of Spain.  Its called Lumeah. At Lumeah, intensives are delivered in a luxurious, peaceful environment with plenty of time for rest, movement, sleep and gentle activities between sessions to support the brain in completing its processing.
